Argentina as a development hub
Since 2002, the IT sector in Argentina has quadrupled in size, mainly as regards the provision of software and services. The activity is concentrated in six geographical areas, being developed mainly in Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Rosario, followed by Mendoza, La Plata and San Luis.
The total market is estimated at 600 million USD, and is mainly concentrated around the software development segment, which is projected to have its highest growth rate during the 2008 to 2013 period, according to Gartner consulting.
The global economic outlook proves reassuring and promising to Argentina; its recovery from the 2009 financial crisis has been favorable and steady, and its competitive positioning in relation to other countries in the region has been strengthened, mainly due to the availability of specialized resources. Global businesses have identified this opportunity and have chosen Argentina as an off-shore development hub – Google, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, NEC, Oracle and TATA Consulting Services among others.
Gartner’s “Analysis of Argentina as an Offshore Services Location” report identifies among the main competitive advantages those variables linked to language, cultural compatibility, costs, infrastructure and time zone; it additionally identifies Argentina as the LATAM country exhibiting the highest average level of education, holding one of the largest populations with college or higher educational attainment.
Prominente has one of the most important development hubs in the country, located in the Argentine provinces of Buenos Aires and Córdoba, both locations included among Global Services’ TOP 50 Emerging Outsourcing Cities list (www.globalservicesmedia.com) together with other cities such as Nizhny Novgorod Russia (Eastern Europe), Bhubaneswar India (South Asia), Iloilo City Philippines (Southeast Asia), Cork Ireland (Western Europe), Thiruvananthapuram India (South Asia), Recife Brazil (South America), Santa Rosa, Laguna Philippines (Southeast Asia), Córdoba Argentina (South America), Puerto Rico U.S.A. (Central America), Amman Jordan (Middle East and Africa).
